BelSU students brought history to life with a unique performance of “The Nuremberg Trials” at the Khvostov Readings event held at Yelets State University, named after Ivan Bunin.
Students from the Law Institute at Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) presented a historical re-enactment of The Nuremberg Trials as part of the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference, “Problems of Ensuring the Rule of Law: History and Modernity.” The production was prepared under the guidance of Elena Safronova, Doctor of Law and Professor of the Department of Constitutional and International Law.
The theatrical documentary-artistic production drew an audience of over 600 students from across the Lipetsk region, along with guests and conference participants. The BelSU creative team delivered a powerful portrayal of the scale of Nazi crimes, the profound tragedy of World War II, and the significance of the Soviet people’s victory.
The project recreated one of the pivotal events in world history – the 1945-1946 sessions of the International Military Tribunal, where war crimes against peace and humanity were convicted for the first time. The re-enactment blended elements of courtroom drama, documentary theatre, and educational simulation. Participants took on the roles of judges, prosecutors, defence attorneys, and defendants, immersing themselves in the atmosphere of a trial that forever changed international law and concepts of justice.
The audience and the administration of Yelets State University highly praised the performance for its mastery and depth. The BelSU students’ presentation was not only a vibrant cultural event but also a testament to the effective integration of academic and research approaches in legal education.
The trip was supported by the BelSU Department of Youth Policy and Educational Activities.
