Belgorod State University recently hosted a themed event in honour of Russian Science Day.
Organized by the Preparatory Department, the celebration, titled "Science Without Borders: From History to the Present" served as a platform for international dialogue, allowing students from various countries to share the scientific achievements of their homelands.
Participants were reminded of the significance of this day, which coincides with the founding of the Russian Academy of Sciences by Tsar Peter the Great. The event highlighted the contributions of pivotal figures in Russian science, from the ground-breaking insights of Mikhail Lomonosov and Dmitri Mendeleev to the revolutionary discoveries made by contemporary scientists.
A particularly engaging aspect of the event was the second half, where international students showcased global scientific traditions through mini-presentations. They introduced the audience to remarkable scientists from their home countries, including renowned figures from Algeria, Niger, and Angola. These students not only discussed their discoveries but also reflected on how these achievements have shaped their nations and inspired their own academic pursuits.
“Events like these transcend mere lectures; they foster a dialogue between cultures through the lens of science," remarked Arsen Martirosyan, Head of the Preparatory Department at BelSU. "We witness the spark in students’ eyes as they talk about the heroes of their homeland. This strengthens mutual respect and offers a unique opportunity to learn about diverse scientific schools first-hand.”
The event concluded with an engaging discussion on the global challenges facing modern science and the vital role of international cooperation in addressing these issues. It exemplified how the academic traditions of the past lay the groundwork for a future where knowledge serves as a bridge between nations.
